Interview with the psychologist of the Thai hostages

We met psychologist Daniel Porat through the important assistance he provides to Thai workers during the 'Iron Swords' war. Daniel spoke about his work with the Thai community in Israel. He shared his experiences with us and told us about the workers’ experiences and the emotional challenges facing them, particularly since the outbreak of war.
Thirty-two migrant workers who came to Israel to provide for themselves and their families were abducted on October 7 and found themselves in the middle of someone else’s war. Daniel has been working with five Thai citizens who were released from Gaza in February. In conversation with him, he shared with us his insights about the way members of the community have been coping in wartime, the experiences of the hostages who were released back to Israel, and the challenges facing them in their return to free life. His words gave us a moving, personal view of the complex reality experienced by the Thai workers, and a deeper understanding of their process of recovery and rehabilitation.
