The Internship in Agriculture Program

The Internship in Agriculture Program is designed for foreign students and recent graduates in agriculture from developing countries in Asia and Africa. Participants come to Israel for an 11-month period, where they combine theoretical studies with hands-on experience in modern agriculture.

The program includes up to 4,000 interns annually, five training centers, and approximately 250 farms. Through this collaboration, the program enhances participants' knowledge and skills, contributes to agricultural development in their home countries, promotes international cooperation in the field, and strengthens Israel’s international relations.

Program Goals:

  • Supporting agricultural development in developing countries

  • Sharing Israel’s agricultural knowledge and expertise

  • Promoting international cooperation and relations

  • Providing practical and theoretical tools that enable interns to earn a living from agriculture and improve their living standards and those of their communities

How It Works:

One day of the interns' week is dedicated to theoretical studies on agriculture and entrepreneurship at the training centers, while the rest of the week, participants gain practical experience on various agricultural farms. They receive wages in accordance with Israeli labor law.

The program is managed by the Internship in Agriculture Administration within MASHAV, the development cooperation division of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since 2022, CIMI has been collaborating with MASHAV and has played key roles in the program, including:

  • Conducting evaluation research

  • Managing digital groups for interns

  • Operating the interns' inquiry center

  • Developing an information system for the program

  • Assisting in program supervision and development

Some Statistics:

For the 2024-2025 academic year, about 2,600 interns from 19 countries (including the Philippines, Malawi, Zambia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Tanzania, Laos, Timor-Leste, Togo, and more) are participating in the program.
They study at four training centers and work at 241 agricultural farms across Israel.
